NEWS: Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Extends Its Popular Asian Lantern Festival

Through September 13

In one of the least surprising announcements ever, the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has shared that its popular Asia Lantern Festival, now in its eighth years, has been extended September 13. We didn’t need a crystal ball when we wrote, announcing its opening,It runs through Saturday August 24, but if history is any indication, it’ll probably be extended.”

Each year, the zoo displays a series of monumental lit-up sculptures on its grounds, with new ones each year. Among the things you can see this year are ocean creatures, a four-story hydrangea and butterfly tree, animals of the Nile, a walk-through tunnel and a dozen illuminated dragons  including a 100-foot-long “Fire and Ice” dragon display.

In addition, visitors can enjoy food from the Asian Food Market and take in hourly acrobatic performances.  You can walk through the Zoo to enjoy the lights Thursdays through Sundays and take a drive-through visit on certain nights.

Also, the festival will again close with its family-friendly Wild Ride on September 14, a chance for bicycles only to ride through the display.
