Cleveland’s BlueWater Chamber Orchestra offers a concert it calls “a respite from the chaos of the past year.”
“Honor, Hope and Gratitude: Tender reflections on a challenging year” is an at-home — yes, virtual — concert, inviting patrons to “relax at home with those you love and enjoy a bit of musical beauty, spanning a diversity of cultures and eras, yet connected by a common thread of compassion, consolation, and healing.”
Daniel Meyer will conduct the musicians, including guest pianist Angela Cheng, from the Maltz Performing Arts Center in University Circle. The program, which spans several countries and with the exception of Frederick Chopin features 20th century composers, includes Arvo Pärt’s “Silouan’s Song,” Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Five Variants on Dives and Lazarus, George Walker’s Lyric for Strings, Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E Minor, Op. 11: II. Romance, andEdward Elgar’s Sospiri, Op. 70, and Serenade for Strings in E minor, Op. 20: II. Larghetto, Gerald Finzi’s Eclogue for Piano and Strings, Op. 10, Florence Price’s String Quartet in G: II.
