The Rock Hall plaza has been hopping this summer with its free Live & Local series— and there’s more to come.
This week’s concert features some veterans of the area music scene, with bands that have long histories. Whatever …was a punk rock force in the local music scene in the ’90s and early ’00s, “fueled by disillusionment, isolation, and raw fury,” they say. Yet the members have somehow survived to have a resurrection 25 years later. Original members vocalist/guitarist Ben Wrecked and drummer Matt Fish have recruited guitarist Brett Moore and bassist/vocalist Peter Woodward to launch a new era and a new album called Into Darker Days, featuring 12 ferocious tracks they’ll undoubtedly draw heavily on when they headline the big outdoor stage at the Rock Hall.
They’ll be joined by Lives of the Saints, whom local indie rock fans may remember from their debut 22 years ago, doing a sort of art/punk/soul mash-up. While they’ve never officially broken up, they’ve had long gaps between active periods. This show, their first in a long while, will pay tribute to their former bassist Jeff Deasy, who passed away in February, with vocalist Lawrence Daniel Caswell playing bass.
The show opens at 7:45 with Cleveland comedian Mike Streng who describes himself as a “cat dad,” so he’s cool. Music starts at 8.
