The Wax & Trax Vinyl & Vintage Festival, taking place at The Vinyl Groove Records in Old Brooklyn, celebrates area record stores, places where you can still find those black (occasionally colored) 12” slabs of vinyl loaded with music.
The participating record stores will all be set up there of course: in addition to The Vinyl Groove, they include Chicago’s Out of Our Past Records, Salem, Ohio’s State Street Records, Mistake by the Lake Records from Cleveland’s West Side, Fat Hippie Records from Brookfield, Ohio, Pittsburgh’s The Government Center, Toledo’s Culture Clash Records and Cleveland’s Brittany’s Record Shop.
There will be vintage vendors and food truck and yes, of course, live music, starting at noon with Apostedelic, fronted by Apostle Jones’ Mikey Silas, performing Funkadelic’s underground hit album Maggot Brain in its entirety. If you survive THAT weirdness, longtime Cleveland DJ Mike Filly, who’s spun at every major venue in the area, will take the stage, followed by jazzy soul ensemble Black Voltron, DJ Red-I (Brittany Benton from Brittany’s Record Shop) doing a “crate session” digging through vinyl live, and garage/pop trio the Vumms.
The event is free and all are welcome.
