Singing Resistance Stands Up Against Injustice in Song

Sun 3/15 @ 3-5PM

Singing Resistance started in Minneapolis early this year as a form of non-violent protest in response to the violent invasion of ICE in that city and the murder of Renee Good by rogue ICE agents. It’s spread organically across the country, adopted by other groups who spontaneously adopted the idea of song as a for of protest, remembrance and respect for all people.

A group of Akron activist organizations are among those who picked up the spirit, and organized a resistance sing-along taking place at the First Congregational Church of Akron UCC. The Akron Area Interfaith Council, Crooked River Action, Indivisible Akron, the Justice Choir of Northeast Ohio, and the Summit County Progressive Democrats are among those whose members will be lifting their voices in song — and that can include you! The event is free and all ages are welcome: bring family and friends. Many of the songs will be familiar, but you’ll also have the chance to learn new ones and be ready to sing out at your No Kings rally on Saturday March 28. (There are rallies scheduled for Akron and Cuyahoga Falls as well as Cleveland and many suburbs. Find an event here. https://www.mobilize.us/nokings/)
