The 15th annual Sweetheart Burlesque at the Beachland Ballroom, presented by Cleveland Burlesque, featured an outstanding ensemble of local and regional burlesque performers, drag artists and vocalists sharing creative numbers set to Broadway tunes. Cleveland burlesque queen kicks off the show with an elegant number, followed by Lakota Shakur, Lilith De La Lueve, Kellen, Lola Loveletter (who performed to “Whatever Lola Wants” of course), Hilde Hasenbelly, vocalist Monica Mod, Riley Poppyseed, Rex Majestyk and big local favorite Heather & Lace who performed twice, once showing off her tap-dancing skills, in the other making one of her noted transitions from frumpy to glam.
It was a bittersweet night, marking the retirement of Cleveland Burlesque’s longtime (11 years!) emcee Ken Schneck. In honor of his final time on the stage, he and Monica Mod reprised a number they’ve done on previous shows, dueting on “Suddenly Seymour.” During the finale, he was presented with flowers, while Lola got a birthday cake — whatever she wants, you know!
