For years, curator Mary Urbas hosted her annual from WOMAN show at Lakeland Community College, where she was director of the Gallery at Lakeland. Alas, the gallery closed in 2024, leaving Urbas homeless. But that didn’t stop the intrepid curator. She’s taken some of her popular shows, such as her fall Skull and Skeleton show and the from WOMANshow on the road to various galleries and museums. In fact, for this year, she split from WOMAN 19 … Art created by women, of women & about women between four venues.
One of them is the BK Smith Gallery at Lake Erie College in Painesville where the show is now open and will be on view through March 26. This weekend, the gallery is hosting an artist reception where you can meet Mary, tell her how valuable you think her work is in growing the local art scene, and chat with some of the artists. This particular portion of the show features 14 artists from Northeast and Central Ohio who work in diverse media ranging from painting to textiles to sculpture to printmaking and more. They include Jen Florentine, Susan Gallagher, Bonnie J. Gordom, Keri Gortz, Becky Grasser, Amy Haggard, Laurel Herbold, Rachel Mentzer, Jill Milenski, Stephanie Miller-Davis, Beth Nilges-Nehamkin, Natalie Rich, Amie Sell and Maria Uhase.
The reception (and the show) is free and open to all.
