At the age of 41, violinist Augustin Hadelich is just entering the prime of his career. The German-American musician studied at Juilliard before embarking on a career that’s found him performing all over the world with major orchestras and on prestigious festivals, fueled by his 2006 gold medal win at the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis.
This season alone is jammed with guest appearances at orchestras across the U.S. and all over the world, including the Chicago Symphony, the Boston Symphony Orchestra (where he’s artist in residence this season), the New York Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw — and the Cleveland Orchestra, where he’s performing this weekend.
Hadelich will join the orchestra in Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, which premiered in 1845, and is considered one of the key pieces for violinists to aspire to. In addition, the orchestra will play Arnold Schoenberg’s 1939 Second Chamber symphony, and Franz Schubert’s unfinished Eighth Symphony. Antonella Manacorda, who is himself a violinist, will be conducting the concerts.
There’s also a pre-concert wine tasting in the lounge for those who like to settle in early; tickets are $20. Go here for more information and tickets.
