Fri 2/6 @ 6-9PM
One way to brighten up these long, dark days of winter is with art and music — and the Akron Art Museum will be serving up a big helping of those at its Midwinter Celebratio of Art, Music and Creativity.
The free evening will offer a kaleidoscope of events, performances and hands-on activities. The Cleveland Uncommon Sound Project (CUSP) has curated the performances which feature some of the area’s most adventurous musicians. They include a 6pm performances by Bob Drake and Kristen Ban Drake on synthesizers, accompanied by Butoh dancer Laura Swedenborg; a 7pm interactive audio ”game” for live processed instruments with p harp player Stephan Haluska, flutist Leia Hohenfeld, upright bassist Torstein Johanen and cellist Liam Battle; and ambient music from Horses 4K with pedal steel player Jacob Trombetta and synthesizer player Robin Guiler at 8pm.
There’ll also be an in-gallery performance going on all evening by Akron Soul Train emerging artist Maddie McSweeney; dancer/choreographer Teagan Reed doing hourly performances in the Alfred McMoore: All This Luck in My Head exhibit; Live mural painting by Ron Copeland in the lobby; DJ Palaces curating music in the galleries; and Time Change Generator with an interactive lounge installation in the Lobby. So all over the museum there’ll be eye- and ear-popping things happening.
In addition, there’ll be food and drink available for purchase. Like we said, it’s all free, but they’d like it if you’d RSVP here.
