Swing Your Partner to Live Music by Hepcat at Bainbridge Swing Dance

Sat 1/3 @ 7-11PM

It’s time to get off the sofa after all that holiday cocooning, shake off the winter blahs and get moving. Grab your significant other, your family or some friends (or come by yourself if they’re all party poopers) and get on down to the Bainbridge Swing Dance at the Family Life Center in Chagrin Falls.

The family-friendly, couples-friendly, singles-friendly even, happening on the first Saturday of each month, is a place for experienced dancers to polish their moves and beginning dancers to acquire some — everyone helps everyone at the one-hour dance lesson from 7-8 that precedes the actual dance. Then, from 8-10 it’s time to hit the floor to dance to some live music by some of the region’s most skillful beat-producing ensembles.

This month that ensemble is one of the dance’s roster of regulars, Hepcat Revival. The seven-piece Toledo ensemble has been performing regionally for more than 25 years, playing danceable music popularized by such ’40s/’50s jump blues/jazz/swing shouters as Louis Jordan, Cab Calloway and Big Joe Turner, widely considered to be the direct precursors of rock & roll. They dress in period style as well.

Don’t worry if you came alone. In this type of dancing, all dancers change partners all night, so you’ll get to meet a lot of new people. And if you STILL haven’t had enough when the band starts breaking own at 10, stay for another half hour of Electro Swing, song requests and line dancing from 10:30-11pm
