The LatinUs Theatre Company, Cleveland’s only professional Spanish-language theater group, has been showcasing the diverse work being done by Hispanic playwrights since it was founded by Monica Torres in early 2018, with the goal of reflecting the multitude of ways the Hispanic community lives.
As it prepares to celebrate its seventh anniversary, the ensemble is hosting a benefit party called Nuestro Teatro: Throwback ’80s. Taking place at its home at the Pivot Center in the Clark-Fulton neighborhood, the event will include “delicious food,” they promise, and we have no reason to doubt them, an open bar, music, dancing and what they call “an epic ’80s costume contest.” So get out the shoulder pads, the Madonna-style plastic bangles and ripped sweatshirt — and big hair for the women, mullets for the men! It’s 21 and over as “open bar” suggests.
