Choreographer/dancer Dianne McIntyre, now 79, was born in Cleveland where she studied dance as a child and graduated from John Adams High School. At Ohio State University, she pursued her passion for dance and then moved on to New York City in her early 20s to launch what became an acclaimed career as a jazz-informed choreographer whose career intersected with a wide variety of ensembles, festivals and stage productions.
She returns to Cleveland indirectly this weekend in the form of her work when DANCECleveland presents her recent piece In The Same Tongue, which looks at how dance and music intersect, using movement, sound and spoken word. It features live original music by Diedre Murray, and the poetry of playwright Ntozake Shange, and a corps of dancers from across the country including five from Northeast Ohio.
The performance takes place at Playhouse Square’s Mimi Ohio Theatre. Go here for tickets.
