Better World Day Explores How Technology Can Be Used for Good

Tue 10/14 @ 5-8PM

Better World Day is a Cleveland-based conference that bring people, including students, educators, nonprofit directors and technologists, together to explore how technology can help make the world a better place.

The theme of its 9th annual conference in “Inclusive Design for a Better World.” It will offer a rebuttal to the anti-DEI propaganda sweeping the country and tragically passed into law by the Ohio legislature, dictating that higher education in the state be less inclusive.
“Inclusive design,” they tell us, “is a methodology that prioritizes creating products, services, and environments accessible and usable by as many people as possible, regardless of age, ability, background, or circumstance. Rather than designing for the ‘average’ user, inclusive design embraces human diversity and the full range of user needs. By considering factors like physical ability, cognitive load, language, and cultural context from the outset, inclusive design fosters equity and belonging.”

In other words, it draws on and includes the complete range of human talent, increasing opportunities for progress, new discoveries and a “better world.”

The event, taking place at the Midtown Collaboration Center, starts at 5pm, with a keynote speech by Alicia Howerton from the Cleveland Sight Center at 5:30, a panel discussion at 6, and an interactive media lab tour at 7.
