Lorain Native Filmmaker Comes Back Home to Screen New Suspense Film Made in Lorain

Sat 9/6 @ 7:30PM

Filmmaker John Baumgartner grew up in Lorain, realizing when he was just ten years old he wanted to make movies. Since then, he’s made all sorts of films—dramas, comedies, romances, horror films (of course, because every filmmaker has), action/adventure films. He even made a silent film in 2001 called War Story, inspired by a 1919 Charlie Chaplin film Sunnyside, which was screened last month on a double bill with the Chaplin film by the Cleveland Silent Film Festival & Colloquium.

Now based in Los Angeles, he hasn’t forgotten his hometown. On his website, he says, “With my creative team in Los Angeles, we are developing a slate of feature films custom designed for Lorain, Ohio, highlighting the International City’s culture, history and landmarks as crucial elements of their stories.”

The first to hit is a supernatural thriller called Beneath the Light, shot entirely in Lorain. It includes the Lorain lighthouse as a central figure in the film. It will have its public premiere this weekend at the Lorain Palace Theatre with Baumgartner and some of the cast present.
