Libraries are treasures for knowledge and resources, expanding well beyond books into other media as well as offering a spot for studying, computer use, lectures, author talks and community meetings. And we need to protect them from predatory politicians and celebrate their role in the community.
This year the Euclid Public Library, one of a handful of Cuyahoga County libraries not in the county system, is marking its 90th anniversary. And this week it’s holding its first-ever community festival called DiamondFest: EPLcat 90 to celebrate the occasion.
Taking place at Sims Park on the lake across from Atlas Cinemas, the free festival kicks off with an opening ceremony at 11-11:30am. That will be followed by DJ music, games for all ages, a photo booth and line dancing. Kids’ activities in “Sparkle Park,” include ballet for kids, a bounce house, crafts, balloon twisting, Dr. UR Awesome’s bubble blowing show from noon-2pm, a “Fabulous Foam” party from 1-3pm and a whole lot more. At the same time there’ll be retro games, crafts, an author talk and caricature portraits for adults and seniors from 11:30am-5pm. There’ll be makers’ market, the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Go Van and the Cleveland MetroParks’ Nature Tracks Exhibit Van from 11:30am-7pm.
Yes, there will be a bunch of food trucks and a beer truck onsite. The event is family-friendly from 11am-4pm and adults only from 5-7pm,
