Light in Dark is a new series of paintings by Hilary Gent. She’s widely know as the owner of HEDGE Gallery at 78th Street Studios, but her evocative paintings of water display a range of color, form and movement that makes water seem almost human. Her artist statement for this show says that she drawing inspiration from her deep personal connection to Lake Erie, exploring the meditative and ever-shifting nature of water. It tells us that “Working with her canvases laid flat, she pours and layers paint in a fluid process that mirrors the surface movement of the lake itself.”
Light in Dark opens at Tinnerman Lofts this Thursday June 19 with a free, public reception from 5-7pm. Starting slightly before the opening, from 4-7pm, Tinnerman will be hosting a plain air painting session on its grounds, for local artists to capture the late afternoon light.
