Cleveland Stories Program Reveals Cleveland’s Role in Moviemaking

Thu 6/19 @ 7PM

The Western Reserve Historical Society’s Cleveland History Center, which sponsors the Cleveland Stories nights at the Music Box Supper Club, is putting together a big exhibit about the area’s history with filmmaking. It’s slated to be called Hollywood on the Cuyahoga: Cleveland in the Movies.

They tell us that “The 5,000-square-foot multimedia experience will introduce visitors to influential artists in front of and behind the camera — producers, directors, composers, writers and actors. The immersive visual content will include film clips, costumes, props, automobiles and vintage movie posters.”

So it’s the perfect topic of a Cleveland Stories program, taking place at the start of Cleveland History Days. Panelists include noted Cleveland historian John Grabowski who has helped organize the Cleveland Stories programs. He holds positions as a historian at both Case Western Reserve University and the Western Reserve Historical Society and edits both The Encyclopedia of Cleveland History and The Dictionary of Cleveland Biography.

He’ll be joined by Dennis Barrie, director of experience design at the Cleveland History Center, who helped design the initial exhibits at the Rock Hall among others, as well as greater Cleveland Film Commission president Bill Garvey

Admission is free. Doors open at 5pm for dinner, and you should make a reservation if you plan to eat. Go here.
