Lithuanian-Based Art Book Triennial Visits Morgan Conservatory

Fri 5/23 @ 5-8PM

Through Sat 6/28

This week, the 10th International Artist Book Triennial hits Cleveland, arriving at the Morgan Conservatory, all the way from Vilnius, Lithuania. (Cleveland is one of just three American stops on the tour, along with New York and Chicago.)

The event is described as “an ongoing international interdisciplinary art project dedicated to the artist’s book.” Artists, curators, museums and gallerists from Lithuania and other countries combine their efforts for this event, with Vilnius its central location.

This year’s theme is “To Be,” emerging, they say, “out of a reflection on the current state of the world, with its conflicts between states, crises and pandemics that affect each of us personally,” addressing “existential questions that can be unexpected, perhaps uncomfortable.”

The art books included in the show range from traditional and historical forms to books that draw on mediums such as sculpture and new media. Artists from 29 countries are represented with a South Korean artist winning the top juried prize.

The show opens at the Morgan with a free, public reception Friday May 22 from 5-8pm. It will be on view through Saturday June 28.
