The Grog Shop has come up with a new way to eyeball some local talent for potential bookings. Grog Shop Idol may not be a springboard to national family ala Kelly Clarkson, but it could get you on its stage for a headlining show.
Competitors must be between 15 and 29 years of age, not have an active recording contract, and live within the Greater Cleveland area. The winner will get a cash prize and the chance to headline at a club on a future available weekend date. Fifteen acts will be taking part.
The audience will get to cheer on its favorite as a panel of experts decides who wins. Although the artists will likely (hopefully) pack the house with their friends, all are welcome to be in the audience. The judges include Grog Shop owner Kathy Blackman, Grog Shop talent buyer Wallace Settles and music educator at the School of Rock Scott Heisel. Grog Shop marketing director and WRUW program host Rachel Hunt hosts the event. “She can’t wait to get her Ryan Seacrest on!” we’re told.
