Immerse Yourself in a Day of Hungarian Culture in Parma

Sun 9/1 @ 10AM-8PM

This is the time of year when the ethnic festivals start coming hot and heavy. And this weekend at Parma’s German Central Park you can join in a celebration of Hungarian culture, music, dance and of course, food, sponsored by the American Hungarian Friends of Scouting.

The day kicks off at 10:30am with a flag-raising ceremony and both Catholic and Protestant church services in Hungarian. Then the eating starts! The kitchen opens at noon with goulash, grilled pork steak, dumplings, Hungarian sausage, “lángos” (fried dough), strudel and much more. All food is available for takeout too, but you may want to stick around for performances by Cleveland’s Walt Mahovlich and his band Harmonia, the Alex Udvary Band from Chicago, and the Hungarian Scout Folk Ensemble and scout troop members in their authentic folk costumes. There’ll even be Hungarian folk dance lessons and open folk dancing for all ages from 6-8pm. Work off that strudel!

The festival also features a live animal show at 2:30, kids’ activities, a book fair and folk crafts, novelty items and souvenirs for sale. The $10 admission benefits the activities of the Hungarian boy and girl scouts in Northeast Ohio. get more information here.
