The Ben Franklin Community Garden is one of Cleveland’s hidden treasures. Located in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood, it’s the largest community garden in Cuyahoga County with more than 200 gardeners working on the five-acre site as well as students from the Benjamin Franklin Elementary School.
It’s also a tranquil gathering place where people are invited to relax and commune with nature while listening to music on its small wooden stage. Once again it’s presenting its music series on the first and third Saturdays of the month from June through September, with some of the area’s most outstanding musicians doing one-hour performances from 6-7pm.
On Saturday June 15, music will be provided by Opus 216, a loose ensemble of some of the area’s best classical musicians founded in 2012 by violinist Ariel Clayton Karas to bring music to non-traditional venues and stretch the boundaries of classical music, incorporating other styles in ways alien to most typical concert halls. A quartet of its musicians will play at the garden.
Looking ahead to July, you can hear rockin’ Louisiana-style band Mo’Mojo on July 6 and the Sam Hooper Band, with its funky, bluesy classic rock on July 20. Find a full schedule here.
The concerts are free; you’re encouraged to bring a lawn chair. The garden is also wheelchair accessible, In case of rain, concerts will take place the next day at 2pm.

I grew up in house on Broadale Rd in 50’s and 60’s. Gardened in school garden every summer. Wonderful memories. Happy music is being made there now also❤️
