The Tim Mirth Guitar Band, which features Mirth and fellow guitarist Brent Hamker, along with bassist Bryan Thomas and drummer Tony Kazel, makes periodic appearances at the BOP STOP to share the new material they’ve been working on — which they always are.
Mirth is inspired by a wide range of jazz players, both historic and contemporary, as well as many of today’s popular musicians. So the group plays a wide range of originals and standards influenced by an array of musicians including Wes Montgomery, John Coltrane, Keith Jarrett, Philip Glass, Radiohead, James Brown and Kendrick Lamar.
Mirth says that playing with another guitarist opens up new musical vistas as well.
“I thought, I rather miss playing with other guitarists, we have a unique language we share, and a nice balance mixing our different experiences together that naturally blends together,” he says.
