Sun 2/4 @ 7PM
While the artists presented by northeast Ohio’s Folknet in its Mountain Rose Concert Series aren’t household names — anyone other than a committed folk music fanatic probably hasn’t heard of them — these concerts offer local listeners the chance to hear some high-quality, entertaining and usually intensely personal music for less than the cost of parking at the ballyhooed Billy Joel/Rod Stewart concert at the football stadium this summer. And you won’t be a half mile from the performers!
The next show in its series will feature a husband-and-wife duo out of Minnesota, Curtis and Loretta. These veteran performers combine heartfelt original songs with traditional American and British tunes while mingling their voices and playing an array of folk-style instruments: guitars, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, mandocello, harmonica, kazoo, folk harp. Performing together since 1977, their repertoire includes songs about people overcoming challenges and those doing good in the world, humorous tunes and songs such as “Angel of Bergen-Belsen,” referring to the concentration camp where Anne Frank died.
They’ll be playing in the cozy confines of Standing Rock Cultural Arts’ North Water Street Gallery in Kent. Children are welcome! Go here for tickets and more information. Learn more about Curtis and Loretta here.
