Mother & Son Concert Pianists Perform for Piano Cleveland’s “Dynamic Duos” Series

Wed 5/31 @ 7:30PM

Piano Cleveland concludes its “Dynamic Duos” Listening Series with a program called “It’s All Relative,” featuring a mother-and-son team of pianists: Olga and Vladislav Kern. The 48-year-old Olga was born in Moscow and claims a family relationship to Pyotr Illyich Tchaikovsky and Sergei Rachmaninoff! Winning the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Texas in 2001, performing challenging pieces by Rachmaninoff, jumpstarted her international performing career. She’s now an American citizen who teaches at the Manhattan School of Music and is the director of chamber music at the Virginia Arts Festival.

Her son, who is a composer and poet in addition to a pianist, was also born in Moscow and came to the U.S. at the age of 12 to study at New York’s Juilliard School of Music. He also spent four years studying in Italy.

They’ll perform pieces from the beloved piano repertoire of Franz Liszt, Frederic Chopin and of course, Rachmaninoff. Doors for the concert at Disciples Christian Church open at 6:30pm when food and drink from the Fairmount Cocktail Bar will be available. Get tickets here.
