Les Delices’ SalonEra Explores 19th-Century Latin Classical Traditions

Mon 4/17 @ 7:30PM

Cleveland Baroque chamber orchestra Les Delices continues the current season of its online series SalonEra with a program called Music & Politics.

Specifically, it’s devoted to Latin American music nationalism. The Ximenez Quartet and Bolivian Baroque violinist and historian Karin Cuellar-Rendon will explore the 19th-century roots of the 20th-century movement represented by well-known composers such as Argentina’s Alberto Ginastera and Brazil’s Heitor Villa-Lobos. They’ll feature such 19th-century Latin American composers Pedro Ximénez Abril Tirado (Bolivia-Peru), Chile’s José Bernardo Alzedo and Brazil’s Chiquinha Gonzaga who brought local influences into European-style classical music.

The episodes stream free from the premiere through June 30. It’s a suggested $15 donation.
