Contemporary Youth Orchestra Joins Composer for “Strings of Tales”

Sat 3/4 @ 7:30PM

The Northeast Ohio-based Contemporary Youth Orchestra offers an opportunity for young musicians across northern Ohio to work together and work with contemporary composers and professional musicians such as Graham Nash, Kenny Loggins, Ben Folds, Melissa Etheridge, Styx and Michael Stanley.

CYO’s spring concert doesn’t feature one of the glossy pop/rock names the ensembles past concerts have featured, but offers a different take on musical collaboration. Pianist/violinist/conductor/composter Soon Hee Newbold writes music, they tell us, that “evokes vivid storylines and imagery through her use of singing melodies and intricate rhythms.” She’ll be conducting some of her own work with CYO.

The concert, called “Strings of Tales,” will also feature the CYO concerto competition winners, with violinist Sophie Ng playing Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “The Lark Ascending” and violist Roy Morcos showcasing in William Walton’s Viola Concerto.

The concert takes place at the Tri-C Metro Auditorium. Go here for more info and tickets.
