Gibney Dance Brings Their Boundary-Pushing Work to Akron

Sat 10/8 @ 7:30PM

New York-based Gibney Dance, founded in 1991 by Case Western Reserve University alum Gina Gibney, is all about expanding the boundaries of contemporary dance with works by some of the dance world’s top choreographers that bring together unexpected ideas and movements.

When the company comes to the University of Akron’s E.J Thomas Hall, they’ll be performing a new work called Oh Courage by Sonya Tayeh of So You Think You Can Dance with music by indie folk group the Bengsons, which they tell us, “celebrates change and truth.” They’ll also be doing the Midwest premiere of Johan Inger’s Bliss with music by jazz pianist Keith Jarrett, and a trio called Lusus Naturae, choreographed by Rena Butler.

In addition, the company will be hosting a series of free workshops  and events in the week prior to the performance, which you can learn about here.
