Rooms to Let CLE Brings Artists Back to Slavic Village

Sat 7/9-Sun 7/10 @ 1-5PM

After a pandemic break in 2020, Rooms to Let CLE in Slavic Village came back in 2021 with a modified model that, well, wasn’t Rooms to Let. Instead of artists creating installations in the nooks and crannies of abandoned homes slated for demolition — a idea that grew out of the neighborhood having been one of the hardest hit by the foreclosure crisis of the mid-late 00s — it featured a variety of activities around the corner of East 55th and Broadway, with most of the art in empty storefront windows (although artist Jacci Hammer did create a magical art garden in an overgrown vacant lot.)

They’re going for that again, so maybe it’s time for a name change. They’re having a gaggle of area artists of all types creating temporary and semi-permanent installations in business windows and vacant lots, while musicians, actors, live art creators, and others will be doing a variety of performances in the area of East 55th/Broadway, with some offering hands-on activities for people attending. The event is free.

Prior to the event, artists, residents and volunteers will be doing a street cleanup. Now if only the once-bustling commercial district could attract new businesses to fill up its vacant buildings …
