Medina County Fair Offers Exhibits, Contests, Rides & Lots of Bad-for-You Food

Mon 7/1-Sun 7/7

It’s that time again: time to eat terrible food and then church your stomach still more by going on a bunch of rides. Yes, it’s county fair season. Both the Lake County and Summit County fairs are running through Sunday July 31, and then on Monday August 1, the Medina County Fair starts the month, running through Sunday August 7 (Cuyahoga County’s Fair opens August 9.)

So head out to Medina this week for your overdose of funnel cakes and corn dogs, along with the usual 4H and agriculture exhibits, rides, scavenger hunts, a kiddie tractor pull, an arm wrestling contest, and shows in the pavilion, mostly country and tribute bands. And there’s a full schedule of special events in the grandstand, including a horse show, tractor pulls, bull riding, motocross, autocross and “rough truck,” a truck obstacle course. Of COURSE there’s a demolition derby — that’s Friday night and you’d better grab tickets fast because people LOVE this stuff. (Most grandstand events require an extra ticket.)

The fair kicks off with Veteran’s Day and opening ceremonies on Monday. The staff of the Medina County Veteran’s Office will be on hand to meet veterans and the general public, and at 6pm the ceremonies will take place featuring the county commissioners and “other dignitaries.” It closes on Sunday August 7 with a fireworks display at 10pm.
