Maltz Museum Hosts Kickoff Party for “Chagall for Children” Exhibit

Sun 5/15 @ 10:30AM-4PM

Today the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage hosts a kickoff event for its newly opened show Chagall for Children.

It uses reproductions of the work of Jewish French/Belarus artist Marc Chagall (1887-1985) in 14 interactive exhibit stations designed to engage children ages 2-12, with an audio recording accompanying each piece and a hands-on activity for each. There’s even a reading nook with kid’s books about Chagall.

Chagall was known for bridging a variety of 20th-century art movements including Cubism, Expressionism, Fauvism and even Surrealism, and an array of media, including stage sets, stained glass, tapestries, ceramics and, of course, painting. So there’s a wealth of work to choose from to demonstrate principles of composition, color, light and texture.

From 11-11:30am there’ll be a live theater performance by the Mandel JCC Playmakers Youth Theater, followed by music from Mike Abbadini for the Rock Hall’s House Band, the Mechanics, at 1pm and a performance by magician Scott Shuller at 3pm.

Pre-registration is required; to buy tickets go to www.maltzmuseum.org. The museum will be hosting other programs around the show throughout the summer.
