HEDGE Gallery’s Annual Print Show Features Two Artists Using Nature as a Springboard

Wed 1/19 @ 5:30-7:30PM

Fri 1/21 @ 5-8PM

It’s time again for HEDGE Gallery’s annual Printmaking Spotlight Exhibition, which showcases some of the area’s most talented artist working in various print mediums.

This year the two artists being featured are Phyllis Fannin and Lisa Schonberg, both of whom have been art teachers while also mastering an array of printmaking techniques such as relief, engraving, intaglio, monoprinting and screenprinting.

This show, titled From the Ground Up, focuses on nature: forests, gardens and waterfront. Fannin uses trees as a stand-in for “the resilience of the human spirit surviving the innate challenges and inherent conflicts in the passage of time.” She revels in the shapes found in their branches, foliage and bark. Schonberg’s patterned layers, with their generous use of color, “push the mystical and nod to the meditative notion of earth’s elements,” exploring water flow, entangled foliage and other natural phenomena.

There’s a preview opening Wednesday January 19 @ 5:30-7:30pm, followed by the official opening during Third Friday, January 21 @ 5-8pm. The show will be on view through Friday March 4. HEDGE Gallery is open Wednesday and Thursday @ 11am-6pm, Friday @ 11am-5pm, and Saturday noon-4pm.
