The Musical Theater Project Discusses 1950s Romantic Film Starring Grace Kelly

Thu 9/9 @ 7PM

After a short summer break, The Musical Theater Project’s Movies at Home series returns for the fall with the frothy romantic 1956 film, High Society.

Based on the 1939 play The Philadelphia Story, about a divorced socialite still (unknown to her) in love with her ex, as she’s about to marry a stodgy prude with a tabloid reporter and photographer dropping in to cover the wedding, it was made into a 1940 film starring Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant and James Stewart.

While the 1956 film with the name change wasn’t as favorably received, it also had an impressive cast with Grace Kelly (in her final film before marrying Prince Ranier of Monaco), Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Celeste Holm.

As usual, TMTP’s Bill Rudman has taped an intro to watch before you check out the film on a streaming service such Amazon Prime, YouTube or Apple TV.  Then join Bill on Zoom on Thursday September 9 @ 7pm to chat about the film. It’s free and no registration is needed. Just go here.
