There is no time of year when tomatoes taste better than they do now. If you’re a home gardener, you know that this is the season when you can hardly keep up with the ripening fruits, and nothing is more heavenly than popping one into your mouth right off the vine.
If you’re not a grower, you’ll find that bounty at our local farmers markets. And that’s why this is the time of year when the Countryside Market at Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Howe Meadow holds its annual tomato tasting, which is back after its 2020 hiatus.
Eight farmers will be bringing more than 30 varieties of tomatoes —all sizes, all colors, some sweet, some tart. Learn which ones you like; they’ll have a list of all the varieties with the farm that grows them so you can buy more. It takes place during the regular weekly market that features more than 50 local farmers and food producers, as well as kids’ activities and live music.
