Brite Winter’s TwiBrite Celebrates Homecoming

Fri 2/19 @ 7PM

Where once we gathered in masses on the west bank of the Flats to brave the cold and enjoy all kinds of entertainment and activities at the Brite Winter festival, now we must gather in our own living room and enjoy it, a bit more passively, online.

It’s being delivered in monthly doses called The TwiBrite Zone, with the second of four episodes arriving this Friday February 19. This one is all about homecoming memories, assuming you have them, which I don’t. It’s all about bonfires (not allowed in the city of Chicago), pep rallies (our principal told us “OK, so our football team hasn’t won any games but we have the state champion chess team.” Rah rah!), and school spirit (cheerleaders at chess games? Nope.)

Many will fondly recall the bonfires st Brite Winter though, always a favorite feature especially in years when it was cold. Don’t try this at home though, kids! Instead, just tune in online to hear musical performances by Cleveland’s soulful, theatrical rockers Apostle Jones, Gumbo Dance Party bringing a little Mardi Gras flavor, and the 10K Movement featuring Candi Fresca, described as “a street dance platform designed to give students, young artists and the larger community an in-depth, educational hip hop experience.”

It’s free to watch and you don’t have to register. Just got to Brite Winter’s Facebook page or YouTube channel.

In addition, Brite Winter is hosting a series of small-crowd in-person events called Phunkenship where you can reserve a greenhouse or igloo by calling 216-417-7734.  Masks are required at the socially distanced events except when drinking or eating.

The line-up features Brent Kirby of 2/17, Shawn Brewster on 2/18, Jul Big Green on 2/19, Beat Freak on 2/20 and Jason Patrick Meyers on 2/21.
