Hear Radio Plays Based on Two Classic Holiday Films

Wed 12/16 & Wed 12/23

Radio on the Lake Theatre, based in Shaker Heights, is dedicated to the retro art form of the radio plays, harkening back to the days when the family gathered around the radio for an evening’s entertainment, and used their imaginations to supply the images.

This month, they’re reprising some of the past performances of classic radio plays adapted from beloved classic films with a holiday theme. On Wednesday December 16, they’re doing Miracle on 35th Street, based on the 1947 film that features a 9-year-old Natalie Wood as a little girl skeptical about the existence of Santa Claus, until … Christmas magic happens. December 23rd’s show is the oft-replayed and –performed seasonal classic from 1956, It’s a Wonderful Life.

“Listening to the radio play adaptation of a favorite film with your family is a wonderful way to spend the holidays, particularly in these challenging times when we have to shelter in place,” says ROTLT Executive Director Caroline Breder-Watts. “The titles we’ve chosen are sure to bring a rush of nostalgia, and hopefully, a smile as well.”

They’ll be posted on the ROTLT website on the dates listed.
