When my sister was about 4 and I was a bit older, we went to our local public library to get her a library card. In trying to sign her name, she kept merging her first and last name so that “Joan Pantsios” came out as “Joantsios,” leaving her in tears. But not only did she get her library card those many years ago, she now has books in every room in her house including built-in wall-to-ceiling shelves in her study and has served on the “friends of” board of her local library.
What better gift could you get your little one — or yourself — for the holidays than a library card? These days as well libraries have so much more than the little color fairy tale books my sister used to read or the ballet books I took out over and over. Through its Freegal membership it offers access to more than 15 million songs, including holiday music. You can download five songs to keep and enjoy unlimited streaming on the rest. Go here for your library card and go here to start listening.
