Cleveland Metroparks Tracks Monarch Migration

From the end of August through early October August, thousands of monarch butterflies pass through northeast Ohio as they travel from southern Canada to Mexico — better build that wall!

No, seriously, these are lovely visitors, and many groups here have worked to plant more of the milkweed essential to their lifecycle. Many have already been seen in parks and gardens around town, and hopefully there’ll be many more. Cleveland Metroparks’ virtual classrooms daily at 1pm offer updates what nature is currently doing in the Metroparks.

“The weather has to be just right for thousands of monarchs to arrive to our lakefront at once,” they tell us. “Park naturalists are on the lookout for updates to share.” Go here to plug into their information.
