Feel the Valentine Love with Marilyn Monroe at CMA

Fri 2/14

The Cleveland Museum of Art is inviting people to come down on Valentine’s Day to check out the love stories embedded in the works in its collection, then to share what they discover on social media, using the hashtag @CMALoveStory. Its Provenance Café will even be offering glass pours of bubbles and chocolate-covered strawberries to savor while sitting in the spacious atrium.

CMA just opened its new show PROOF: Photography in the Era of the Contact Sheet, and one thing visitors will see as they peruse the nearly 200 proof sheets and prints that make up the exhibit is a large number of sessions featuring Marilyn Monroe, the secret Valentine daydream of millions of men to this day.

As part of the museum’s programming to accompany the exhibit, and in celebration of Valentine’s Day it will be showing one of Monroe’s most memorable films, 1959’s Some Like It Hot. In it, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis dress in drag to disguise themselves as members of an all-woman band whose singer is Monroe in order to escape from gangsters pursuing them.

It screens at 6:45 on Fri 2/14, with another showing on Sun 2/16 @ 1:30pm. Tickets are $10.
