Akron’s Annual Blue Heron Homecoming Celebrates Cuyahoga River Restoration

Fri 6/21 @ 10AM-3PM

The annual Blue Heron Homecoming at Akron’s Cascade Valley Metro Park’s Chuckery Area has been renamed the Cuyahoga River Homecoming this year, as part of the festivities surrounding the 50th anniversary of the last Cuyahoga River fire.

Its main theme is a celebration of the progress made in cleaning up the Cuyahoga River and its tributary since then offering information about northeast Ohio streams and rivers. The family-friendly event will have hands-on exhibits of interest to both adults and kids, free food and entertainment, vouchers for free rain barrels and trees on a first-come/first-served basis, fishing and kayak demonstrations, an augmented reality sandbox, and just for kids, Eco’s Enviro Party area. It will also be the site of the passing of the torch making its way from the head to the mouth of the river as part of Xtinguish Torchfest

It’s all free.
