SPACES’ annual Monster Drawing Rally is a big artists’ party to which everyone is invited. More than 100 artists signed up for a one-hour shift to create artwork on the spot, while visitors browsed the room and observed the artists at work, identifying identify pieces they like. As each piece was finished, artists hand it to runners to hang on the wall where buyers rushed to be the first to claim their favorites for $75 each.
Some of the artists actually drew, using pencils, charcoal and other media. Others painted, collaged, did woodworking, sewed, or created portraits of visitors. While the artists worked and visitors kibitzed, a DJ spun music, kids worked industriously in their own arts-creation area, and food and drinks were served in SPACES front room.
