Tue 2/5 @ 7:30PM
One doesn’t normally think of a hipster bar as the ideal setting for a somber discussion about foreign policy and world affairs. But the monthly “Happy Dog Takes on the World” series does just that at the Gordon Square music-and-hot dogs venue.
The month join the Cleveland Council on World Affairs, the City Club of Cleveland, Global Cleveland, International Partners in Mission, and the Northeast Ohio Consortium for Middle Eastern Studies (NOCMES) for a discussion on how the United States responds to terror threats from around the world.
Terrorism has been a widespread topic of discussion ever since 9/11/01, as the war against the Taliban eventually morphed into concern about ISIS. And late last year, Trump suddenly announced he was pulling American troops out of Syria and Afghanistan, claiming the war on terrorism had been won, despite objections from military and intelligence officials. Meanwhile, he’s using terrorism as a talking point for building a wall on our border with Mexico, a country which has never produced any active terrorists that threaten the U.S.
Counterterrorism Joshua A. Gelzer will unpack these issue, looking at how terrorism has evolved, what the actual threats are and what are the best policies to protect our national security.
The evening is free and no registration is required.
