The Christmas holidays are a busy time for Apollo’s Fire, Cleveland’s Baroque Orchestra. No sooner do they wind up their run of performances of Handel’s Messiah than they dive in their most popular program, Christmas on “Sugarloaf Mountain: An Irish-Appalachian Christmas.”

Soprano Amanda Powell, tenor Russ Hauck, and the Apollo’s Singers and Apollo’s Musettes children’s chorus, will join the ensemble in a new version of the old program, which will also feature hammered dulcimer, bagpipes and a whistle-playing dancer to draw connections between traditional Celtic music and Appalachian folk.

In addition, Apollo’s Fire will be celebrating the release of a new recording of “Christmas on Sugarloaf Mountain,” which will be available at the traveling pop-up gift shop at each show.

They’ll perform Fri 12/7 at St. Noel Church in Willoughby Hills, Sat 12/8 at First Baptist Church in Shaker Heights (where they’ll do an evening concert and an afternoon one-hour mini-concert), Sun 12/9 at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Bay Village, Mon 12/10 at Bath Church UCC in Summit County and Fri 12/14 at the Cleveland Museum of Art.

Tickets range from $10-$77.
