PHOTOSTREAM: A Day at Put-in-Bay by Anastasia Pantsios

Thu 6/28

As we lined up to board the last Miller Ferry of the day at sunset, a trio of young men in backward baseball caps, toting a large styrofoam cooler, debarked from the last boat from the mainland. The famous Put-in-Bay weekend party animals were arriving!

But a weekday on the island is a different matter, with families cruising Delaware Avenue and enjoying the parks and water. At the OSU Sea Grant Aquatic Center at the northwest tip of the island, visitors learned about protecting the ecology of Lake Erie while kids fished on the pier outside. The chocolate museum, with its adjoining candy and ice cream shop, is a must-visit on the way to the Perry’s Cave Fun Center. Its multiple attractions include the namesake cave, a welcome chilly underground visit on a hot day, activities such as a climbing wall and mini-golf, and one of the island’s most enchanting attractions; the butterfly house.
