Sacred Steel Gospel Group the Campbell Brothers Plays at Happy Days Lodge

Sat 3/24 @ 8PM

The Campbell Brothers out of western New York play sacred steel gospel, a sound developed in black Pentacostal Churches in the mid 20th century that features steel guitar in place of organ. The Campbell Brothers grew up in this tradition.

Brothers Chuck and Darick Campbell play pedal steel and lap steel, respectively, while brother Phil plays electric guitar, his son Carlton plays drums and Daric Bennett plays bass. With that lineup, you know they can produce a dense, high-energy sound, as they do when they perform their own distinctive version of the John Coltrane classic “A Love Supreme,” which they view as a spiritual masterwork.

They’ll be coming to Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Happy Days Lodge in a concert co-presented by Tri-C Jazzfest and the Conservancy for CVNP. Northeast Ohio gospel group Humbly Submitted opens.

Tickets are $25-$30.
