Hardworking Pianist Mike Petrone Celebrates His 5,000th Performance at Johnny’s Downtown

Fri 11/17 @ 5:30PM

Mike Petrone calls himself  “Cleveland’s Piano Man” and he’s earned that right. The workhorse musician performs at Johnny’s Downtown Monday through Friday from 6-10pm.

His run began the day it opened, June 3, 1993 and now, 24 years later, he’s about to give his 5,000th performance there. He still finds time to play Sundays at Brother’s Lounge, and do corporate events, special events and weddings and even play an occasional benefit for a special cause such as the Cleveland School of the Arts. His set list of jazz and pop standards is huge and he’s got original music too.

“I’m very lucky,” Petrone says. “Johnny’s is a restaurant like no other. We have always had regulars, tourists and celebrities.  No two nights are the same.  Movie stars, music stars, sports figures, politicians; the famous and infamous have all sung with me. “

“My career may be quite a bit different than the musicians you see at the Grammys, but I have been more than blessed to have a stable and interesting career performing while always being able to be there for my children,” he adds.

He’ll be celebrating the big 5,000 by starting early and continuing until 11:30pm. Reservations are a must for dinner although you can always walk in and have a drink at the bar.
