Apollo’s Fire celebrates its 25th anniversary in grand style with a series of concerts and other programs gathered together under the rubric of “Beethoven & Schubert Rediscovered.” Forty period-instrument specialists with gather for this 25th Anniversary Festival with many outstanding soloists among their numbers including Berlin Philharmonic concertmaster Noah Bendix-Balgley, who makes his period-instrument debut with Apollo’s Fire.
Founder/artistic director Jeannette Sorrell will lead this assembled musical fire power in performances of Beethoven’s Egmont Overture and his Symphony No. 5. They’ll perform at the Akron-Summit County Public Library on Thursday, the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Gartner Auditorium on Friday, First Baptist Church in Shaker Heights on Saturday and St. Raphael Catholic Church in Bay Village on Sunday.
But that’s only part of what’s on the schedule which kicks off with Bendix-Balgley doing an informal conversation/concert at Nighttown Wed 4/26. It also includes pre-concert talks prior to each performance, an open rehearsal at Gartner Auditorium Friday @ 6pm, Viennese parlor dancing, coffee & conversation with the artists and an afternoon chamber concert on Saturday, and a champagme brunch and panel discussion at Nighttown on Sunday. Thursday’s and Sunday’s concerts also feature post-concert “Afterglow” receptions with the musicians. Go to Apollo’s Fire’s website for a full schedule.
