Two Singer/Songwriters Pay Tribute to Joan Baez & Joni Mitchell at Nighttown

JoanJoni

Sat 3/4 @ 8:30PM

Back in the ’60s and ’70s, every long-haired, barefoot girl with an acoustic guitar and a sensitive, thoughtful streak wanted to be either Joan Baez — the queen bee of the 60s folk revival with her pure soprano or Joni Mitchell, the free-spirited Canadian singer/songwriter with the elastic range.

Their DNA still lives in folk-style performers today. Joan & Joni, a tribute to their music, was put together by Washington, D.C.-based contemporary singer/songwriters Allison Shapira, a “recovering opera singer” who gravitated to folk, and Kipyn Martin, with her Americana folk roots. Together they perform the songs these singers made into beloved classics as well as obscure tunes they feel deserve more attention. In doing so, they share the themes of their two foremothers, woven in with stories of their own.

Tickets are $15.
