Sun 3/5 @ 5PM
Like so many blues artists of the 20th century, Guitar Slim — Nathaniel Savage — was born in the deep south (Alabama) and found his way north during the Great Migration after a short stay in Florida. He landed in Cleveland in 1956 where he worked a day job in construction while performing in local clubs at night. He and his own band started playing at the Cascade Lounge on St. Clair in the mid ’70s where they’ve played regularly ever since.
Just days after his 82nd birthday, the Cleveland Blues Society is hosting a tribute concert to Guitar Slim at the Beachland Ballroom. Many of the stalwarts of Cleveland’s blues scene will be sharing the state, including Wallace Coleman, “Crazy Marvin” Braxton, Travis “Moonchild” Haddix, Ms Butterscotch amd Bob Frank of Blue Lunch.
Admission is $10.
