Certainly women as a group have a reason to feel uncomfortable with the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, who has made it clear through decades of actions and comments that he believes a woman’s worth resides solely in her looks.
The organizers of the informal, impromptu event, “They Try and Bury Us,” to be staged on the evening of the opening day of the Republican National Convention, are fighting back against that retrograde idea.
“Women are powerful beings,” they say. “We hold within us sacred energy connected deeply to the earth. We would like to come together on July 18th, the beginning of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, to demonstrate our plea for peace. To honor our sisters in their struggles, and to show we will not be buried.”
The group — anyone is welcome — will gather at Edgewater Beach at 8pm. They’re hoping for artists, musicians and “those who understand ritual, prayer and meditation will come and share their gifts.”
At 9pm each person who wishes to participate will be buried in sand by another woman, and candles will be lit to signify the light women bring and to mourn those who have been lot to violence.
“We will set the intention for peace for the week of the RNC, and let our city know we will not be silenced,” they invite. “Join us.”
