Was it necessary to do a scene-for-scene re-creation of the 1881 blockbuster film Raiders of the Lost Ark? Three Mississippi fan boys thought so, and they spent most of the ’80s making Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adapatation.
Following its first public screening in 2002, the film became something of an underground cult hit tat spawned a documentary Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made.
Two of the makers of The Adaptation, Chris Strompolis and Eric Zala, are now out on their Raiders: Follow Your Dreams tour, on which the documentary will be shown, followed by the Raiders re-make. The tour stops at the Capitol Theatre in Gordon Square this week, with showings of The Adaptation on Fri 6/24 and Sun 6/26 only, while The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made will be playing for a special one-week engagement starting Fri 6/24. The Capitol will also be showing the original Raiders of the Lost Ark from Fri 6/24-Thu 6/30.
